All your food and non-food ...Thanks guys and girls,
All your food and non-food items (the more 'homely' the better) are loved, and quite often re-gifted to mates in other locations throughout theatre! (i.e. I often read my care package magazines, shared them with 'bunkies' (roomates) then sent them on to my girl friend in another location!)
We like to be reminded of home, despite how much we miss it, and don't care if our goods are second hand. If you have finished with your magazine (Notebook / House & Garden / Cosmo / ANYTHING) and don't want to keep it; send it to a digger! Despite the majority of deployed personnel being male, there are a lot of girls out there who like hear the latest news from home (and 'latest' usually means anything from the last 3 months. We're a bit behind).
Oh and p.s. this includes news papers: for some people their important Saturday or Sunday routine is to buy the paper and relax with a coffe whilst reading it cover to cover, with the inserts. In a few weeks time, someone might appreciate the paper you were about to put in the recycle bin :)
Thanks again guys, your support of Aussie diggers (Army, Air Force and Navy) is one of those things that keeps a smile on the face of those who are overseas, tired and sometimes scared, missing their families and friends. Your support means more than you will probably ever realise. Thank you!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6006292833388885256.post-34476259258019360232009-07-20T20:09:59.257+10:002009-07-20T20:09:59.257+10:00Thanks for your post, Richard, and thanks again fo...Thanks for your post, Richard, and thanks again for serving.

Good to have you back again.

I confess to being a bit heavy on the food side, too. I need to get more mags sorted out, although I try to pack one in each parcel.

I've found a shop within staggering distance that has the clippy koala things, and they do travel well.

I have been known to throw in the odd whoopie cushion, because they are so much fun.Nilkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13872495050796257177noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6006292833388885256.post-50393610631170838262009-07-20T18:58:35.416+10:002009-07-20T18:58:35.416+10:00Many, many thanks, Richard. It's especially valuable to have brand names, e.g. Kraft peanut butter rather just any old brand.

This time I'm including some custard cups (vanilla, chocolate). Just hope they'll be OK as they don't need refrigeration, but that might turn out to be a big oops.

I've made the mistake of concentrating too much on food 'treats', so your tip about DVDs (hadn't thought of that) is great.

Of the non-foodie stuff, I send clip-on koalas (six in each package), lip balm and small tubes of hand sanitiser.

Please come back a post again soon.

SandiAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6006292833388885256.post-64145993948480020712009-07-19T17:19:45.714+10:002009-07-19T17:19:45.714+10:00Thanks for the tips Richard.
